Dometic Prop Nut Kit 118-3717

Prop nuts secure the propeller to the shaft taper. Prop nuts do not take much stress in a typical operation because the propeller continuously pushes onto the shaft due to the engine's power. There may be some load on the nuts in the opposite direction, but it's temporary. The half nut should be installed first and tightened only snugly enough to "preload" the half nut onto the shaft against the prop hub. Tight, yet not enough to support your entire weight. After that, the thick nut onto the shaft. This is when the engineering magic happens, when it reaches the half nut.
