Oil seals prevent the leakage of oil or grease and the entry of dirt and foreign objects into shafts and bearings. An oil seal is composed of an inside flexible member that seals the oil and is chemically connected to the metal section, and an outer circular metal portion. Rubber serves as the sealing element and can be either natural or synthetic depending on the situation. The sealing lip of the flexible member is prepared by removing the flash that develops at the sealing edge during molding. Enough pressure is applied to the shaft by a tiny sealing edge to stop leaks.
